100 Chart with Nova Scotia ASK Program
To teach numbers to 100 using a 100 chart outside I use a 100 chart I made out of two shower curtains and the bean bag with numbers on them from the Nova Scotia ASK program. This lesson is effective for schools with no nature enriched classrooms. The lesson also exemplifies academic health (numbers to 100), physical health (running to and from the chart), social health (helping someone with where to place their bean bag and working as a team to complete the task, and mental health (fresh air, feeling proud of their accomplishment, moving their bodies, and being with classmates).
Shower Curtain 100 chart
Take a white shower curtain and draw black lines on it. I found one shower curtain could make a 1-50 chart and the second one makes 51-100. I also made a 100 chart with no numbers on it for advanced lessons.
The bean bags have letters or numbers on them. I use numbers for this lesson. The letter bean bags with letters could be used for other lessons.
Lesson
Part 1
Place the 100 charts at the end of the court or ground. The teacher will place some of the bean bags to have some anchor numbers for the students. Place the bean bags in the middle of the space. Students line up in teams of 5, depending on the number of your students. One at a time a student from each times runs into the middle , takes a bean bag, and then runs to the hundreds chart and places the bean bag on the correct space. \Then they run back to their team, high five the next team mate, and the team mate does the same. The game goes until all of the bean bags have been placed.
Part 2
Repeat Part I with a blank 100 chart. However the teacher again will place some of the bean bags to have some anchor numbers for the students. of the Have students stand in lines of 4-5 depending on the amount of your student.
If accommodating a student in a wheelchair another student can hand them the bean bags and place it on the 100 chart for them or the chart could be placed on a table at the height of the wheelchair.
